Edelawit HUSSIEN (1995, Ethiopia) lives and works in New York City as a director, producer, and creative consultant. Her narrative film, Be Somebody, was the Best Short Film winner at Mammoth Lakes Film Festival 2022 and Vail Film Festival 2022 and Golden Gate Award Nominee at the San Francisco Film Festival 2022. Her work has screened at Raindance, IndieMemphis, New Orleans, London Short, Manchester Film Festival, and Fashion Film Festival Milano. In addition, her work has been screened at the Addis Ababa Museum and OSCAM (Amsterdam).
Hussien has been invited as a Panelist at the Cannes Film Festival 2019, guest speaker at Harvard Design’s African Conversations: On Socio-Spatial Production in the Sub-Saharan Region, and invited as a TIFF/RBC Industry Guest to attend the Toronto International Film Festival 2023. She’s participated in Cinephilia’s Film Development Workshop 2020 and was selected as a recipient for the International Emerging Film Talent Association’s 1:1 Industry Mentorship Meetings.
Her commercial/branded work includes clients such as Sony Music, Kravebeauty, Rose Inc, Milk Makeup, Amazon, Vogue, DAZED and Milk Studios.
